The Missouri Department of Transportation has begun construction on a two mile stretch of a sidewalk improvement project on Lucas and Hunt Road (Route U) between West Florissant Avenue and Natural Bridge Road.
MoDOT awarded the project to Gershenson Construction for $1.6 million. It includes 15,000 feet of new sidewalk, more than 100 new Americans With Disability Act compliant curb ramps, paved approaches to driveways and entrances, and new pedestrian signals at five intersections through this corridor.
Crews will be primarily working on weekdays, during non-peak traffic hours, and are scheduled to be complete by December 2012.
Crews will start work on the west side of Lucas and Hunt between West Florissant and Crusader Drive and move south to Natural Bridge Road. Crews will close a lane on southbound Lucas and Hunt during this work between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. weekdays
During the project, there will be periods where sidewalks on one side of the roadway are closed. Pedestrians will need to detour to the other side of Lucas and Hunt to get around these closures. In addition, when crews are working in locations with on-street parking, that parking will be limited during working hours, normally 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. weekdays.

- West Florissant to Crusader Drive - late March to mid-May
- Crusader Drive to Interstate 70 - mid-May to mid-June
- Interstate 70 to Natural Bridge Road - mid-June to mid-July
- Natural Bridge Road to Glen Echo - mid-July to late July
- East side of Lucas and Hunt
- Woodrow to Natural Bridge - late July to mid-August
- Natural Bridge to Interstate 70 - mid-August to late August
- Interstate 70 to Eunice - late August to early October
- Eunice to West Florissant - early October to late October
