Project status: Completed as Promised!

Why is MoDOT doing this project?

This project ties the northern four-lane divided section, which ended just south of Route 24, with the existing two-lane Route 13 to the south. This 3.1-mile extension unites the gap between the two sections and will improve safety, increase mobility, decrease travel time, provide for efficient movement of traffic, and offer a convenient and economical north/south route.

How does this project benefit me?

The Route 13 “Gap” project will send traffic to the east of the City of Lexington, separating through and local traffic. This will reduce congestion on the existing Route 13, and assist economic development.

What is the project time line?

Right-of-Way was acquired in 2007, and construction began in 2008. The project is expected to be complete by 2010.

How is this project funded?

Amendment 3, approved by Missouri voters in 2004 supports the estimated construction cost for this $7.1 million project.

Although current funding limits the project to two lanes, sufficient right-of-way will be acquired to permit expansion to four lanes when needed.
