Why is MoDOT Talking About Transportation?

Transportation is more than roads and bridges and projects. It’s your connection to safety, work, business, family and better
government.

Your Connections Are In Jeopardy

For the last six years, our construction program has averaged $1.2 billion a year. Moving forward, the very best it will be is half that amount - about $600 million a year.

That decline in funding for transportation means more than a decrease in needed projects – it means Missouri stands to lose 17,000 jobs.
We’ve fallen off of the cliff and now we have to scrape the dust off and figure out what we can do to increase funding for transportation.

We’re All Tightening Our Belts

We’re doing what most businesses and families have had to do over the last few years – we’re tightening our belts. We’re getting smaller, cutting costs, reducing services and squeezing every penny out of every dollar we have. But we can only survive this way for so long.

Your Connections Could Get Worse.

For the next five years the focus is simple. We will direct all available resources to taking care of the roads and bridges we have. That won’t leave us with enough money for the major road and bridge projects we need to do to keep motorists safe, support jobs, provide additional transportation options and compete economically.

There are Two Options – Do Nothing . . .

If we choose to do nothing, we’ll lose the progress we’ve gained.
Our roads and bridges will get worse and lives and jobs will be at stake.
Transportation is too important to do nothing.

. . . Or Take Action

Missourians have to find a way to invest in our infrastructure.
That’s tough to do in today’s political and economical environment.
In the meantime, we will continue to use our resources to the best of our ability. We’ll be talking about the importance of transportation and support the Missouri Transportation Alliance’s efforts. But, we need you to take action and make it personal so we can enjoy a safe and economically competitive future.
