Public Hearings Planned to Discuss Relocation of Route 50 in Moniteau and Cole Counties

JEFFERSON CITY – The Missouri Department of Transportation will hold two open-house public hearings to gather input about plans to relocate 17 miles of Route 50 from St. Martins to west of California.

The hearings will be held on Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at the St. Martins Knights of Columbus located at 537 Route T and on Wednesday, June 15, 2005 at California High School on Route 50. Both meetings will take place between 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.  The public may attend either public hearing at any time during the advertised hours.  Access for the physically disabled is available.

The project includes relocating Route 50 from St. Martins to the west side of California.   The proposed design includes a four-lane divided highway to near the Route 87 interchange and continuing with two lanes with shoulders around the south side of California.  The proposed design also includes improvements to the existing intersection of Routes 50 and 87.

The project to relocate Route 50 is being made possible through MoDOT’s Smoother, Safer, Sooner program resulting from Amendment 3 funding.

Preliminary plans are available for public inspection at the Missouri Department of Transportation located at 1511 Missouri Blvd. in Jefferson City, MO 65102.  For more information about the hearings, the public is encouraged to contact MoDOT at 1-888-ASK-MoDOT (275-6636).
